PERFORMANCE AFTER A PERISH!!!!

When I saw the disturbing pictures aired by various channels on Tsunami and its devastating effects, it took me about 30 years back, the then CEO of my organisation was telling that the mantra that we should adopt in our professional life is 'Perform or Perish'. He was motivating all the employees to perform and to humble all the targets posed before us and also indirectly hinting that the non-performance will result into a perish. And he also told, "once you perish, it is twice tough to make a comeback". But the way Japan reacted and responded made me to call the same CEO and tell, "Sir, there is a Performance even after a Perish".

Let us look at the disaster that created havoc in Japan. Few of the details are-

  • PerishTokyo Stock Exchange directly experienced the worst fall to 5% during trade on the days of quake which is expected to swallow the loss of hundreds of trillions in Japan. The Nikkei-225 index fell below the level of 10,000.
  • PerformanceThe Bank of Japan  pumped $76 billion in the financial system to soothe money markets shaken by Japan's biggest ever earthquake, a devastating tsunami and a nuclear emergency. And thus, safeguarde the interest of stakeholders, shareholders and the economy of the nation.
  • Perish- Nuclear Plants have automatically shutdown, power supply went off, backup system of power supply collapsed, coolant system failed and world feared a nuclear meltdown.
  • Performance- Within seconds after the earthquake started, the control rods were inserted into the reactors and the chain reaction was stopped. Sea water was pumped into the reactors through copters and other methods. Nuclear Disaster minimized, not only minimized but also made negligible.Nearly 210,000 people were evacuated by the Japanese authorities from the vicinity of the reactor. The media which was repeatedly highlighting this disaster gone spellbound.
  • Perish 380,000 people became shelter less and many of them lost their kith and kins and were in the state of shock.
  • Performance- Immediately 2050 evacuation centres are established and those lakhs of people were accomodated. The best part was the medias were highlighting the shortage of medicine and water and the inmates of the evacuation centre expressed satisfaction and appreciated the efforts of the govt.
The above is an illustrative list and not an exhaustive list.
I always remember the theory of 4 F's. Fear leads to Failure and then to upcome the Failure, you have to Fight and as a last resort if you are unable, then you have Fly away from the Failure. And the Japanese are the last in this world to do the last F.

They are fearless and they are the born fighters(Hiroshima is an example and now it is Fukushima). Let us learn from Japanese.

Failure comes in everybody's life and also results in loss mentally, physically, financially and it may lead you to the edge of Perish. With the awesome strength which you possess, you can perform even after a perish. Three cheers to the Japanese.

Japanese are Jaapanese... After the wrath of WW II we have witnessed them rising "from the ashes". The Perishing aspects are converted into success by Performance. We all know every dark cloud has a silver lining but often the tendincy is to brood over the darkness than to find hope. Japanese be our eye openers. God Bless them.

  2. Hi Sir, time and again Japanese have shown their ability to work against all odds either man made or natural and end up in success. After the world war-2 it took more time them to come out from the ashes which you have mentioned in your blog post but I am sure they will bounce back this time within short period. I think the circumstances have forced Japanese to learn living in uncertainties rather than any other thing. Let us hope a better future to Japan.
My Sunday's blog walking took me to this new Indian blog and I am really happy to be here.I think you have a bright future as a blogger and wishing you all the success.
